"ARS 120DX 8-inch Heavy Duty pruners review" 2010-01-17
By Baldomero Villegas (Orangevale, CA)
ARS has a good reputation for quality pruners. I had one pair that were the best ever. This new model is not as good as the heavy duty pair that I used to have. It is good for light pruning of roses and bushes but I would not recommend it for canes thicker than 1/2 inch. I am still testing my 120DX model. I wish I could review the pruners in another month to see how I did pruning 1200 rose pushes, 50 fruit trees, and 25 grapevines.

A word of caution... Make sure that you buy the pruners directly from Amazon as one of the Amazon Warehouse sellers substituted the cheaper 130 pruners for the real 120DX model.

 "Wrong Item Delivered" 2009-10-11
By Starr B. Freeman
Buyers beware. Twice I received a different (cheaper) model than the one pictured and paid for. This company is substituting #HP-130DX with a coil spring for this model with the V spring.

 "Not As Good" 2008-06-09
By Henry Friedman (Sanger, CA United States)
Not as good as the very similar Felco #F-7. The Felco grasps thicker branches on its own, "one-handed." The ARS doesn't, and I have to hold the branch steady with my left hand while I cut with my right.

 "Don't waste your money" 2009-08-06
By Peter G. May
[...]This is no exaggeration - mine broke on the very first twig I tried to prune with it. It is cheaply made, does not work well when new, and will certainly not last.

"Works well, a real time saver!" 2009-05-11
By D. Kumpula
I have rose bushes extending across a 50 long, 25 foot tall wall that require pruning at least three to four times a year. Needless to say, standing at the top of an extension ladder with my little pruners, constanatly shifting the ladder in 18" increments along the wall was getting old. This pruner, however triples my reach and significantly decreasing my pruning time. The cut and hold feature is great for keeping rose clippings (and sharp thorns) from falling on your head or catching on the vines below. This pruners is sharp and requires less effort to cut than my hand pruners. Highly recommended!

 "Disappointed" 2009-03-08
By Mary R. McDow (Rock Hill, SC)
I was very disappointed with the rose pruner especially considering the cost of it. It is not effective at cutting anything but the smallest of branches and does not look like it will hold up to long term use. I wish I had returned it.

 "Great Find" 2009-09-12

I buy these ARS garden pruners to pass on to my best friends. I also buy and keep several handy for myself - in my back pocket, another in my car, another on my garden bench. Buy one for yourself today. They are a great find.

 "awesome pruners!" 2008-08-19
By E. Ford
The ARS fruit pruners are excellent for almost any small pruning job. The compact size is perfect for a woman's hand. I work in the landscape business and use them every day.

 "Compact size" 2007-08-05
By Peggy (Norfolk, VA United States)
This is a great pruner for deadheading, harvesting fruit and vegetables, or whatever else. They are well constructed, light-weight, and have long lasing stainless blades. I expect them to outlast me with minimal care.

"photo placement led to purchase error " 2007-08-31
By John Munyan (sumner, wa usa)
ARS makes several pairs of scissors that appear quite similar but are, in fact, quite different upon close inspection. Also, ARS does not identify their scissors with any product code.

When I made my purchase I already had a pair of ARS scissors (with orange handles) which I wanted to replace. I thought I wanted the ARS Bonsai scissors until I noticed that the 330H scissor in the Amazon ad were the only ones with orange handles. With no product numbers of my own I ordered the orange handled scissors.

When the scissors arrived I immediately noticed that the scissors did not have orange handles and the scissors blades were not as narrow as the scissors I already had - and the vendor catalog that came with the order showed the 330H scissors were available in four colors but none of them were orange.

Thus, I have concluded that Amazon's confusion in placement of the pictures accompanying the various ARS scissors in the Amazon ad led me to purchase scissors I did not want.

So, if a correct photo of the 330H had been shown when I made my purchase, I would have ordered the bonsai scissors as I originally intended. As it turned out I had to absorb $9.50 in shipping charges to receive the faulty scissors plus pay an additional $3.50 in shipping to return the scissors to the supplier.
