 "Great Trimmer" 2009-10-28
By W. Davis (IN. USA)
This pole trimmer works very well. I did quite a bit of research before buying these and everything pointed to these being the best. I'm very pleased with how well this trimmer works and also, these are sturdier made than others.

"Does its job, and does it well" 2009-10-23
By D. Brust (Minnesota USA)
This is my first experience with a pruner, so while I can't compare it to other models, I can at least review the unit itself. I recently moved into a new house and my insurance company requested that I trim back some branches that were touching the roof. This model gets pretty good reviews here on Amazon, and I wanted to make sure I got something with a good reach and a good drive system. This model satisfies both requirements.

I found the reach of the pruner to be very good. It's true that once you have it extended out to its maximum length it can get a bit unwieldy. That's to be expected, though, as you're now working with a 14-foot pole. My arms did end up getting a bit tired, but I was able to make it through without much problem. I really appreciated that extra length, as I didn't have to get out the ladder. Adjusting the length is very easy thanks to the twist-lock adjustment. The padded grip is a nice addition. I imagine a non-padded pole would really add to your fatigue level.

The pruner does a good job of slicing through small branches, up to about 1 inches or so. Anything bigger and it would start to cut, but not be able to make it through. I did have the chain drive get twisted on me, but it only happened once. Branches had suddenly become much harder to cut. After a bit of investigation, I was able to see that the chain had twisted, and the rope was now coming out of the side of the chain guide, instead of the back. It was really just a minor annoyance and easily fixed.

I found that the rope handle didn't work very well. The handle has a groove that you slip the rope into, which should grab the rope and keep the handle in place. I may have been using it wrong, but it would just slip down the rope whenever I tried to lock it into place and use it. I ended up just wrapping the rope around my hand and giving it a good pull, then moving my hand up, and pulling again.

The saw was effective, but a bit hard to get started. The best method I found was to take a number of downward cuts on the branches, just to get the cut started. Once the cut is going, you can then start using a normal back-and-forth cut. This can be a bit tedious, especially on wobbly branches where you need to wait for the branch to stop swaying after each cut, but it works. The saw was plenty sharp and did a pretty good job of cutting through the thicker branches. The rope can get in the way, but I found that it was easily managed by just holding onto the rope, snug against the pole, as you cut.

All in all, I'm very pleased. I was able to trim back the necessary branches quite easily, and actually look forward to using this tool more in the future. There's a small bit of learning required when using a pruner, but once you figure out a good "system," it's smooth sailing.

"Quality pole saw and pruner for around the house" 2009-10-01
By Eric R. Scott (Athens, GA)
Great pole saw and pruner. It gets flimsy when fully extended, but does the job. I have used this tool to cut and trim a one acre yard and it worked great. The pruner is suprisingly sharp and cuts through most small branches with no problem. The saw is very sharp as well and an I cut through 6" larger branches with no problem - just a little elbow grease. Only have two complaints, thus the 4-star rating: The pull chain that connects to the rope kept coming off the sprocket and getting stuck behind it...just a pain. Also the rope sometimes gets in the way when using the saw, so it frays from contact with the saw over time...but I am sure this is the same with any pole saw. Still a great tool, and would recommend it to any homeowner.

 "Good handy tool" 2009-08-23
By Mark P (Guadalupe, CA USA)
Arrived not properly assembled (the fasteners were not tightened properly) so I lost a nut while using the tool. Second day of use the spring got sprung (? don't know why). I called Customer Service (very friendly and prompt) and received the replacement parts in time for the next weekends projects. Since that time there have been no problems.

 "It works!" 2009-07-10

I was pleasantly surprised when:

1) amazon delivered this via ups BEFORE the due date (thanks)

2) the pruner was solidly built; you DO need good strength to hold this especially when extended

3) both pruner and saw works great, just remember to cut perpendicular to the wood, otherwise you will work harder if not impossible to cut
